Charlotte Copper and Strawberry Summer

I'm super excited to have fellow TWRP author and one of my super fab critique partners as my guest today. Charlotte Copper is here to introduce us to her latest release - Strawberry Summer. Check out the awesome cover quote (okay, okay, super biased)


What could be better than working the dunk tank on a hot summer day with your best friend? How about catching the eye of the cute new boy?

Olivia is volunteering at this year’s Strawberry Festival when she meets tall, buff and curly, Aidan.  If the two are to stand a chance, they must look past their scars and overcome a few misunderstandings.

JC: Charlotte, thank you very much for being my guest again here on the Carus Chronicles.
CC: Hey JC, thanks for having me back.  I’m super excited to be here today for the release of my Young Adult romance, STRAWBERRY SUMMER.

JC: Where did you find your idea for Strawberry Summer from?
CC: Although the characters are fictional, the setting for the story is real. Each year, on the long July weekend, my town of Stouffville, Ontario hosts its annual Strawberry Festival.  Main Street is closed to traffic, vendors line the streets, and carnival rides and activities fill our park…just like in the story.

JC: I love strawberries. I could easily see myself gorging on a bucket full of them at this festival, so it's probably a good thing I live too far away. So this is your first Young Adult (YA) book. How did you find the experience?
CC: I have three daughters/step-daughters, the youngest of which just turned 18, so I have definitely read my share of young adult novels.  I still love them!

JC: YOu normally write paranormal romance for adults. Did you come across any new challenges writing for a different genre?
CC: Actually, my challenges were outside the writing. First, I couldn’t decide if I should use a different author name for YA to separate/distinguish it from my adult paranormal romances. It’s a lot of work keeping up with twitter and my website, the idea of two of everything was overwhelming.
And then, while I love my (our) publisher Wild Rose Press, they no longer publish YA.
I’ve read a few “Lunchbox” (novella length) books from Boroughs Publishing Group. This seemed liked the perfect answer for both of my issues….allowing me one publisher for my adult romance, and a second for my young adult.

JC: Sounds like you solved all your challenges. Do you plan on writing more young adult?
CC: I hope to continue doing both. I have two YA books in the works right now, and I have a light sci-fi romance coming out with Wild Rose Press, as part of their Candy Hearts series, in February 2016. So yes, I definitely hope to continue writing both.

The three of them just got settled as the movie’s opening music began to play.
Olivia sat on the blanket, Aidan on one side and Cindy on the other. Her friend sat yoga style, folded up like a denim pretzel, while Olivia reclined, legs out, and leaned back on her arms, aware of Aidan’s body next to hers. Stretched out in similar fashion, his leg and broad shoulders occasionally brushing against her. Especially when he laughed.
She liked it when he laughed, and had trouble concentrating on some parts of the movie. Luckily, she’d seen it before.
“So, you weren’t a little jealous earlier, were you? When you thought I’d been kissing Dakota?” The bright festival lights reflected mischievously in his eyes.
“Uh…” Yes. “No,” answered Olivia, the heat of the truth rushed to her cheeks. She slurped the last remains of her pop. “Why?”
“I don’t know,” he said as the final credits rolled on the giant temporary screen. “Just hoping, I guess.”


Charlotte Copper lives in Stouffville, Ontario - that's in Canada, eh. When she isn't working at her full-time job, Charlotte likes to craft, read, go to movies, and, of course, write. Charlotte hopes to have all of her stories published some day because, as a romance writer, she believes in happy endings!
